| Ugu Mayor congratulates local Comrades hero |

For immediate release 17 June 2008 Ugu Mayor Cllr Sthembiso Cele has once again congratulated Mncedisi Mkhize, for making it into the top ten of the Comrades Marathon. Mkhize finished 7th and collected a second gold, following his 3rd position win last year, becoming the first South African to come in after the mighty Russians. Mkhize (27) hails from Umthwalume in the Mzumbe area. According to Ugu Mayor, Cllr Sthembiso Cele, Mncedisi continues to be a shining example in the district. “We are extremely excited at the recent developments involving Mkhize. We pride ourselves that our district can produce an athlete of Mkhize's calibre.” he said. . Mncedisi, with no coach, formal training and a sponsor, surprised everyone when he became the first South African to finish the race last year. He clocked in at 5:32:58 to finish in third position.
