Bridge connecting Hibberdene and Port Shepstone closed

The Mzimayi River bridge that connects Hibberdene and Port Shepstone on the R102 south bound has been closed.

Structural engineers from the Road Traffic Inspectorate that conducted the assessment found that the bridge suffered heavy damage as a result of the floods. “As a safety precaution, we decided to close the bridge indefinitely. People travelling from Hibberdene from Port Shepstone and vice versa must travel via the toll road”, said Mr Michael Inggs from the RTI in Port Shepstone.

Mr Inggs said the bridge will be closed for about three months and people can use the alternative route described as follow:

From Port Shepstone to Hibberdene or vice versa, people must take the Woodgrange turn off and follow the signs until David Drive
