Calls for non perishables as flood victims rebuild their homes
For immediate release

The Disaster Management Centre dealing with the aftermath of the floods that raved the South Coast has received tons of perishable food, blankets and baby food.

“We have been overwhelmed by the response we got from the public, religious groups, donor organisations and business from all over the province. We currently have enough supplies to cover for us for the next few days”, says Mr Victor Chetty, the Director of the Protection Services.

He appealed, however, to the public to donate non perishable items. “ We are working towards re-intregrating displaced people with their extended families and our aim is to give them food parcels so that they can have something to carry them for a few weeks, while attempts are being made to get more aid”, said Mr Chetty.

The number of displaced people housed at municipal halls has decreased, with many people moving back to their areas to try and start their lives again. “Today, we managed to re-settle 64 families. We hope to re-settle more during this weekend as we move our disaster management operation to another level”, he said.
