The Municipality seeks to appoint suitably qualified persons to the following positions within the
WATER SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
PLUMBER (SHIFTWORKERS) X 11
Total Annual Salary: R 148 927 pa
Reporting to the Area Manager: South, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties,
inter-alia:
- Communicating with immediate supervisor and establishing material and resources necessary against
specific work orders.
- Interacting with the Engineering Stores and checking allocated components and materials against
job cards prior to commencing with loading.
- Providing guidelines and specific instructions to personnel with respect to the preparation of work site
for major/ minor works and/ or setting up of traffic signage.
- Attending to deviations in performance or disciplinary/ conflict issues and counselling personnel to
correct/ adjust behaviour prior to applying laid down disciplinary procedures.
- Completing internal transactional documentation (time sheets, log sheet, progress and productivity field report)
and related forms
- Performing specific tasks associated with the operation of heavy and/ or specialised vehicles and equipments
during plumbing installation, repair and maintenance activities.
- Reading and interpreting drawings/ work orders detailing layout and specifications.
- Marking routes for the running in and laying of pipes and / or measuring, marking and drilling plastered
using hand held power tools
- Installing valves, flow meters and/ or bends, joins and diverts pipes using coupling and/ or seam welding
techniques.
- Constructing support structures using brick layering techniques and applying finishing procedures,
sealing joints and seams and plastering/ covering open spaces.
- Inspecting works prior to commissioning and communicating with immediate supervisor with regards to test,
adjustments and functionality of installation.
- Undertake the installation of domestic, bulk and fire water connections timeously and to specifications.
- Coordinating activities and sequences associated with maintaining the functionality of water reticulation
systems
- Inspecting and identifying leaks in the system, isolating defective area and commencing with repair sequence.
- Cutting/removing and replacing defective sections using welding techniques and/ or couplings to secure joins.
- Removing and replacing defective flow metering units and connections to domestic household/ industrial premises.
- Clearing blocked drainage and waste water systems using high pressure cleaning systems to remove debris/ trapped waste.
Requirements:
- Trade Tested Artisan
- A valid, code EC driver's licence. PrDP
- Certification of competency in the operation of truck mounted cranes.
- Certification in Basic first Aid
- Plumbing experience in Municipal water Reticulation
- Ability to communicate in English and iSiZulu
- Required to work in all weather conditions
- Required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies
- Required to be on standby
- Required to work shifts
