With the Football World Cup just 24 months away, the Ugu District Municipality on the KZN South Coast has announced a R7 million investment on its local tourism industry.

Speaking during his budget presentation during the passing of the Council’s R861 million budget last week Friday, district Mayor Sthembiso Cele said it was critical for the region to position itself for the domestic and international markets in order to make meaningful use of this huge marketing platform that the football world cup presents.

Said Cele “We have completed setting up a single tourism body for the region, Ugu South Coast Tourism Board and now we are concentrating on working to promote our region as one of the leading destination domestically but also to the international markets”. He said R4 million will be used for tourism marketing, while the R3million will be used to develop new viable and sustainable tourism products that add flair and variety to existing products.
